Justin Jefferson Serves up the Patriots for Thanksgiving

Justin Jefferson has had one of the best starts to a wide receiver season in the NFL. The superstar wideout not only passes the eye-test, but statistically he’s accounted for the most receiving yards in the first three years of a player’s career with 4,248 yards. The former receiver that held the number one spot was another Minnesota Vikings legend, Randy Moss. Justin Jefferson is currently on pace to have 1,904 receiving yards in this season alone,  which would be the most he’s had in a season so far. Justin Jefferson passed Randy Moss for the number one spot during his Thanksgiving night performance against the New England Patriots.

Playing against Bill Belicheck and the New England Patriots is something that an offensive player would never look forward to doing, as they usually attempt to take away a team’s best player. When playing the Vikings it would be in any defensive coach’s best interest to stop Justin Jefferson, which the Patriots indeed tried to do. The Patriots defense doubled and even triple-teamed Jefferson during the game, but it did not stop him from putting up huge numbers. The Minnesota Vikings superstar finished the game with nine receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Jefferson credits most of his success to his team executing the plays that the coaches draw up. During the offseason the Vikings signed Kevin O’Connell to be their head coach, the same Kevin O’Connell that was the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl winning Los Angeles Rams in 2021. O’Connell was able to call an offense that led to Cooper Kupp achieving the receiving triple crown and being named the NFL offensive player of the year. Now O’Connell has the luxury of calling plays for Jefferson, a player that seems to stop at nothing to make plays on the field.
